We find children who are motivated and determined, but are unable to reach their full potential because of circumstances beyond their control.
With the love and support of their parents, grandparents, and extended families, we remove all of the barriers that would have kept them stuck in the cycle of poverty.
Before they worried about the violence in their neighborhood. Now they feel safe. Once they moved from shelter to shelter. Now they sleep in the same bed every night.
We provide these children with everything they need. Now they can learn.
A child-in-need lives year-round in a safe and stable home.
Here, our scholars never go hungry. Nutritious food strengthens their brain.
Their new winter coat is warm. Their shoes fit properly.
Responsible and loving adults nurture, guide, and supervise. They instill the value of community service and role model life-long learning.
College preparatory education is the focus. Academic scholarship is provided. Residential counselors and tutors oversee homework and daily study sessions.
Our scholars learn about life outside of their troubled neighborhood. They visit museums, and go to camp. Mentors take them to the ocean for the first time.
Pencils, textbooks, a calculator, and other school supplies fill their backpacks.
Our scholars have crucial access to computers and the Internet.
They get to and from school and activities safely, to the doctor when necessary, and have weekend home visits with parents, grandparents, or mentors.
A weekly allowance teaches financial responsibility. Summertime internships develop professionalism. A part-time job saves for college.
With assistance throughout the entire application process, our scholars get into the college that’s just right for them. BHGH Baltimore is right alongside them as they persist to college graduation…and beyond.
